Entrepreneurial spirit at Hutchinson Engineering

Mark Hutchinson named as finalist for Ireland's Entrepreneur of the Year

One of five local Northern Ireland firms, Hutchinson Engineering, has been shortlisted in the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2014 programme, it has been announced.

The event which is one of the biggest all Ireland business competition champions the spirit of entrepreneurship across Ireland - and the winner of the Ireland heat will go forward to compete in next year’s global competition.

Managing Director, Mark Hutchinson, is nominated for his work as a leading laser cutting specialist and a high quality supplier of laser cutting, folding, fabrication, kitting and design services to the aerospace, agriculture, construction, energy, materials handling, medical, and transport sectors across Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and Great Britain.

Commenting on the nomination, Mark Hutchinson, Managing Director, Hutchinson Engineering and Hutchinson AeroTech said, “I’m bowled over by this nomination. I never thought of myself as of an entrepreneur but I’m delighted to see that I and Hutchinson Engineering have received this wonderful accolade.

“It is an absolute honour to be one of 24 finalists who will join a group of 110 entrepreneurs, all previous finalists and winners of the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ programme, for a week-long CEO Retreat taking place in Seattle and Vancouver.”

Referred to as a “game-changer” among the Entrepreneur Of The Year™ community, the CEO Retreat will include executive education at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and University of Washington in Seattle, both of which are ranked in the Top 30 universities in the world.
The company, recently launched a specialist division, Hutchinson AeroTech, based in Antrim, with the aim of becoming a leader in the machining and supply of stainless steel and titanium processing for the aerospace sector and the group also includes H360 Ltd an innovative design engineering provider.

Established in 1971 and with 85 employees the leading supplier of quality laser cuttingand fabrication services has gone from strength to strength through a serious of strategic diversifications which now sees it working with customers in the agriculture, construction, energy, medical and transport sectors.

Announcing the shortlist, EY’s Frank O’Keeffe, Partner-in-Charge of the Entrepreneur Of The Year™ programme, said: “We’d sincerely like to thank all of the phenomenal businesses that entered this year’s programme and applaud the tremendous contribution they make to Ireland’s economy – North and South. Together with our 24 finalists, they are a true testament to the entrepreneurial talent driving our nation forward.”

He continued: “Our independent judging panel had a very difficult task narrowing the entrants down to these 24 outstanding entrepreneurs who were selected on the basis of their vision, leadership and resilience through one of the most challenging economic periods in our history.”

The winners from each of the three categories as well as the overall winner will be announced at the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ Awards Gala taking place in Dublin on October 23rd. The overall winner will then go on to participate at World Entrepreneur Of The Year in Monte Carlo in June 2015.
