Investment at Barrett Steel Group's CMT Steel Services

CMT Steel Services, part of the Barrett Steel Group and the largest structural steel processing plant in the Midlands, has invested more than £2m in state-of-the-art processing facilities at its Cradley Heath site. CMT, whose customers are mainly in the structural fabrication and construction markets, has installed two fully automated saw and drill lines and one punch and shear machine. This investment is designed to complement their existing shotblast & primer paint facility and keep CMT at the forefront of the Midlands steel processing sector.

Whilst many companies are restricting spending, Barrett Steel is continuing to invest, a policy which is paying dividends, as Chris Smith, Sales Manager at CMT Steel Services, explains. "We have experienced a 20% increase in demand, despite the downturn in the economy in general and the construction market in particular, enabling the company to create an additional 20 jobs.

"CMT has the backing of the Barrett Group's resources, buying power and expertise, as well as its wide stock range. We have the capability to deliver to any UK location, supplying a wide variety of products, from a few bars cut to size, up to large structural components. Services include saw cutting, drilling, punching, shearing, shot blasting & primer painting, profiling and laser cutting of both tubular and flat products."
