An intensive half-day tutorial providing an introduction and update to industrial laser safety organised by the Association of Laser Users (AILU) for users, suppliers and integrators of lasers for materials processing
Earlybird 15% discount if you register by 15 September
Background to this workshop
Laser technology and applications continue to offer promise of more productive and precise manufacturing ranging from the macro to the micro and nano scale and over a breathtakingly wide range of sectors from transport to medicine; telecommunications to renewable energy. Supporting this massive use of lasers are safety standards and guidelines; these have allowed laser technology to provide not only the most flexible but also one of the safest laser tools for materials processing.
But there is no room for complacency. The growth of technology and applications has created new and/or increased risks, and the legal consequences to businesses of laser injuries in the workplace are severe. As a result, there remains a need for those manufacturing laser sources and systems to be aware of current relevant standards and regulations, and similarly for users to be aware of compliance standards of equipment they are purchasing and best practice in laser use.
Scope of meeting
First and foremost, this half day technical introduction and update event addresses in general terms what you need to know about industrial laser safety as an employer or a supervisor responsible for safety in the manufacturer and/or use of industrial laser-based equipment. Its scope includes standards for suppliers of industrial lasers and laser processing machines; and the implementation of regulations for health and safety in the workplace, including requirements for safe use and for servicing of embedded laser products, the design of laser areas and availability of commercial products to support safe laser use.
Who should attend
Manufacturers and integrators of industrial laser sources and processing machines and those responsible for machine servicing and for workplace health and safety in research and production environments will gain a clear understanding of what their responsibilities are, the relevant safety standards and the requirements for assessments that need to be carried out and documented: both from a supplier and user perspective.
Whilst in this half day event the presenters will concentrate on the what the safety requirements demand in the manufacture and use of lasers, examples will be given to illustrate the implementation of good safety practice and the open forum at the end of the event will offer the opportunity for delegates to pose questions related to their specific conditions of laser use. The event will therefore also be useful to laser users and machine operators wishing to know more about laser safety, though it is not intended to satisfy all the needs of those requiring laser safety training.
Certificates of attendance will be provided
There will be a tabletop exhibition of laser safety equipment and services.
