On July 20 2010, the EU announced a package of FP7 collaborative R & D calls including Public Private Partnerships in the thematic areas of ICT and NMP. The total funding made available for these calls amounts to 6.4 billion Euros and is open to organisations in EU member states and associated countries. Key to making the most of these opportunities is collaborative development where end users, technology, product and application developers are all brought together.

On 25th August 2010 the Technology Strategy Board announced a £18M Technology Inspired collaborative research and development call to stimulate innovation across its key enabling technologies. The core technology areas covered by this competition are :

  • Advanced Materials
  • Biosciences
  • Electronics, Photonics and Electrical Systems
  • High Value Manufacturing
  • Information and Communications Technology
  • Nanotechnology

To encourage the participation of Electronics, Sensors, Photonics KTN (ESP KTN) members in these R&D calls, the ESP KTN is hosting a number of dissemination events around the UK. On Wednesday 15th September 2010, ESP KTN will hold an event at the Daresbury Science & Innovation Campus in partnership with the Association of Laser Users (AILU), the North West Photonics Association (NWPA) and the Welsh Optoelectronics Forum (WOF).

Speakers from the FP7UK National Contact Point will outline the forthcoming calls and competitions for collaborative R&D in FP7 including ICT and NMP technologies and will give practical guidance on how to maximise the chances of success of your proposal. There will be a presentation from the Enterprise Europe Network on how to locate partners for your proposal and a number of case studies will be presented on proposals that have successfully gained funding from the European Framework programme. A presentation will also be given on the Technology Strategy Board Technology Inspired competition.

To enhance networking, the event will make time available for delegates to introduce their organisation and potential proposal topic to the meeting. In order to make this opportunity available to as many as possible it is necessary to have a few simple rules:

  • 3 slides only to be emailed to the registration email address below (there will be strict limit at 3 slides) by THURSDAY 9th SEPTEMBER 2010.
  • Keep it VERY SHORT - 3 MINUTE only (No videos please)
  • Priority will be given on a first come basis, so send your slides early
  • Keep it relevant to the event subject

Registration

Although this meeting is free to attend, space is limited, so please complete the online registration form or email your name, organisation and location to Kay Davenport. Confirmation will be sent by e-mail to all delegates. At the meeting there will be opportunities to network with the speakers and the delegates attending.
